It isn't as simple as sending us into the realm so that we can dispatch La Llorona. She isn't the true source of the problem, nor would that end up protecting anyone.
[She folds her gloved hands in her lap delicately.]
Unlike other places we've visited, the power of faith alone isn't enough to support this realm's existence. That means... in its absence, this very necessary part of the circle of life and death would collapse, and the ripple effect would be tremendous. In the world's younger days the most faithful would offer up sacrifices and their life energy would sustain the realm, but that is no longer the case.
The Black Order discovered that the god in charge of this realm was somewhat open to negotiation. He gave his word that the bare minimum of lives would be taken by La Llorona in order to sustain it, and then she would stop until lives were needed once again... presumably a year from now but perhaps longer.
Our assignment here isn't to fight La Llorona or to stop what's taking place. It's to keep any more lives from being lost than is necessary, and to protect the workings of this world so that the cycle continues as it should.
[So far she has given this with all the emotion of a soldier making a report, but she truly feels bad about being the one to break the news.]
We can't save the people La Llorona killed without jeopardizing countless others. It's an impossible situation. I think that's why they haven't been honest with you.
