It's... well. I suppose in a sense you could call it that, but the connotations in Mexican and Latin American folklore are a bit different. There is a land of the dead, but it's supposed to be a sort of... maybe not joyous, but peaceful resting place. And there are times where it's believed that the wall between the spirit realm and the real world thins, and the spirits of the deceased can journey back to visit their loved ones. This doesn't feel like that at all.
