WHAT: Raine found this weird app on their phone while walking around town

[A very human, slightly aging person is in line at the coffee shop, their larger bag over one shoulder. No sense advertising they have their instrument with them. They'll offer to put their change to whomever has the order behind them. Maybe it's even yours! After that, they take a seat at one of the little outdoor tables and sips at their coffee while scrolling through their phone...

Eventually it does get to be mid-afternoon, and they'll make a quick dash to one of the concert halls occasionally bumping into people here and there] Sorry- Just getting through, sorry. [Hopefully they don't spill what's left of their coffee. But maybe there's some unlucky soul who gets splashed on them. Probably a weird thing to notice though is any puddles or spills along the sidewalk seem to split when they step into them.]

Seeing as this app cannot be uninstalled, I have some other questions. Has anyone been able to go back through its archive and see what the first couple of posts were? How long has it been availabe and in use? What exactly are we expected to do with this?

Also how do I silence this app? I can't have it ringing, and it bypassed my phone's silence settings.

[ Eda was just stocking up on food, since she now has a child living with her, as well as some spare clothes for the poor kid. Internally, she's pretty much trying not to freak out. She already feels La Lechuza nipping at the edge of her consciousness, and ugh, she's gonna need to go rodent hunting tonight.

At the moment, though, she's just making her way through the crowd, shopping bags not too heavy because she's making them float just a little, just so it looks like she's carrying them but she isn't. And she's quite used to people bumping into her when it's this full, but then -- then she hears that voice, and, well, her bags drop.

She turns around, and sure enough, the person next to her looks way too familiar. ]

Is that -- Raine Whispers, is that you?

[As soon as they take on step past the bump, they can tell whatever was being carried fell. Damn. They almost don't even see the person with their bag blocking the view until they turn fully around.

Oh.

Oh no.]

Eda- Edalyn.

[ It's them, it's really them. What kind of serendipity is this, that she doesn't see them for twenty years and now just bumps into them in the street?

Well. Things like that have been known to happen. Suddenly, all sorts of feelings slosh around in Eda's belly, and she really doesn't want to look closer at any of them.

Mostly, though, she's happy to see a familiar, once-beloved face. It's been a bit of a day, and a friendly catch-up with an ex might just serve as a little pick-me-up. She smiles broadly at them. ]

I don't believe it, what a coincidence! What are you doing here?

[This is not the time nor the place, even if they are instinctively trying to help gather those bags back up (an are those... small clothes? Is Eda getting clothes for a kid???) and back to Eda.]

Getting coffee and then rehearsal. What- Why are you out here?

[ Eda gathers her things back up together with them and tries not to think about how it feels like falling into a familiar rhythm. ]

Oh, you know, just shopping.

[Once Eda's clearly got her things together, Raine keeps both hands on the trap of their bag, stepping a little away but watching Eda still. Trying to ignore a lot of the emotions that threaten to come up with this little run in.

No, they can't deal with this right now.]

Quite a lot of things.

Yeah, uh, I have a -- visitor. [ Who is a child. And may be staying for an indefinite amount of time. Help. ] Need to stock up on food and all that.

A visitor.

[A visitor who is clearly a child. Raine looks her over once, then at the direction they need to go then back.]

I shouldn't keep you, then.

[ ... for some reason, seeing them go so soon tugs at her heartstrings. ]

Oh, no, it's fine, it's -- how's the orchestra? You doing good?

Oh, it- It's good. Working on rehearsals for a new season, which - I was just on my way to.

Well, then, I shouldn't be keeping you, huh?

[ She laughs, with her usual snort. A little awkward but shhh. But then it morphs into a genuine smile. ]

It was nice to see you, Raine.

[They hesitate, seeing that smile. It hurts, really. Remembering who they used to be together and why they aren't anymore. All Eda had to do was talk to them-

They aren't much better though. They move one hand off their bag to wave, and using the motion to subtly draw any water that got onto her bags out and away, drying everything out.]

You too. I, um. You should come. To one of the performances sometime.

[ That surprises her. It would be too much to say she's been keeping tabs on Raine, but, well, she might have looked them up once or twice. Seen adverts for their concerts in local magazines. That sort of thing.

She never dared to go, thinking that surely they would not want her there. Or maybe she was just afraid of her own feelings. Now that's a thought she never wants to think again, so she shoves it deep down.

Right now, she just tries to keep the sadness out of her smile. ]

Who knows, maybe I will!

[Boy that's way more enthusiasm than they expected. They sort of stare for a moment, then see the bags again.]

...If your visitor is new to town, I can set a couple tickets aside for you.

[ And in turn, that's way more generosity than she expected. ]

Well, I guess I should show her around a little.

[They're just being polite!!! But the rest of their symphony are either fresh baby faces or been there as long as they have but with families and kids, and keep having Conversations with Raine and they don't wanna think about it!!]

Right, so- Soon as we have dates set, I'll have some set aside for you for the second night. Just, just keep an eye out for announcements.

It's a date, then!

[ And whoa, does her blood ever rise to her face at that. Alas, no taking it back now. ]

[OH THEY ARE GOING TO DO SO BADLY THIS NIGHT, why did she say that why did she use that word it is not a date, Raine Whispers you are in your forties SETTLE DOWN.

Why is it and always has been Eda that does this to them.]

Um. Yep. I'll- see you then.

[ She's just that talented okay.

Anyway, she recovers and shoots them another grin. ]

See you then! Break a leg!

Sure, um. Thank you.

[GODDDDDDDDDDD yep they're leaving, they are turning on the heel of their boot and going, still subconsciously keeping the water on the pavement from touching them as they go.]

[ And Eda will not keep them, but she does linger for a moment, looking at their retreating figure with something like a mix of regret, curiosity and hope in her eyes.

Then she continues to go about her day. ]

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone's figured out a way to silence it fully. At least that only happens when Zodiac sends a message.

[Still, it's loud and annoying]

I think it's meant to connect us with people under going strange circumstances, or to get Zodiac to profit from us. Probably both, actually.

Has anyone tried factory resetting? Or getting a new phone altogether?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is both. I'd rather not be involved in any of it.

I tried factory reset. Haven't tried a new phone, but I have a feeling you'd be wasting your money.

Sorry, but I'm not sure how much of a choice you'll have. Weird stuff is going to happen whether you look at the app or not.

The weird stuff isn't completely new to me. I just don't want to deal with Zodiac and their ilk.
