WHEN: A few hours after this
WHAT: Hermes tries to fix the river.

[Of course they're going to livestream this.]
[Hermes is at The Cottage. Sneaking into the dry river area. Technically they don't have to, they're Persephone's sibling. But this is for the video! Which they have set up on a rock. They are holding an EMPTY pet carrier as they step into the dry riverbed.]
[They flash the camera a thumb's up.]
Okay. Door to River test... uh. One?
[It's science if you document it!]
[They plunk the pet carrier down in between some rocks, wiggling it a bit to wedge it in. The door to it is one of those cage-types. Nothing bigger than a finger can fit through. But it is, in fact, a door. And they are the God of Doors - like SOMEONE said.]
... I thiiiiink there's... [Their expression is unfocused for a moment. Staring into space, and for once it's not because their braincells have expired.] Okay. Got it. It's a boat sunk in some kinda... really big river. Somewhere.
[Don't ask, they don't know geography.]
[A visibly deep breath. They hold out their hand to the pet carrier door and, as usual, it glows golden. They brace, expecting a torrent of water to come gushing out the glowing portal. To fill up the riverbed they're standing in and...]
[...]
...
Oh what.
[blorbpth]
[That's it. That's all the water that comes out. A thin little blob of it that either dries up or gets absorbed into the dirt in moments. They frown. Stepping over closer to examine the pet carrier. They shake it a bit. Then a bit more. They lift it. Turn it upside down, shaking it again like they're trying to dislodge the contents.]
[Nothing.]
[They right the carrier, squinting into the still-glowing door. Now, does Hermes do the logical thing and, oh, we don't know, stick a hand in, knowing there's a roaring river of water on the other side of their glowing portal?]
[No.]
[No, they do not.]
[Instead they roll fantastically low on the wisdom check and stick their head in.]
[Immediately, they drop it, coughing, sputtering, and falling over on their backside. They are utterly and completely soaked from the neck up, their hat has fallen off, and water is running in rivulets to soak their hoodie. From the carrier, though, there is only another sad little plip of water. Hermes sits there, coughing and staring daggers at it.]
Okay, what the hell!

Voice ★ un: Shepard
[Hermes. My guy. You are so special.
...Shepard might need to make some popcorn for this, actually.]
Hermes, what are you trying to accomplish, here?
no subject
Ugh - right. Right.
[The frustration (and bad dice roll) got the better of them.]
I'm trying to open up a Door between a river that's not dried up, and the one at Persephone's cottage. But - it's not working!
video; un: isdeceittaken
[Damien has been caught on his couch, popcorn (dyed blue? with almonds) in a bowl in his lap as he pops one in his mouth. It seems he's been waiting for the climax on how this would turn out.
Needless to say, it surpassed his own expectations. He struggles to swallow the popcorn between his laughter.]
So! When does the "livestream" start?
Heeeheee!!
no subject
[She squints at the video again, thinking.]
You know, maybe it only works when you're actually going through? You soaked your whole shirt, not just your head. Try it with something that won't waterboard you, like your hand.
But if you actually want to flood something like that, you're definitely gonna need a bigger door.
[She almost said 'bigger gun'. That would have been embarrassing.]
no subject
I guess... I mean, people can walk through without me, if I have them open. But. Worth a try?
I'm not really trying to flood it. I wanted to see if it'd work before I got a bigger one out here.
[They hunker down, and shove their hand into the glowing opening. Once again, water kind of bubbles out, then stops.]
What the hell!
no subject
Okay - yeah... yeah. Livestream.
Super funny.
[They pick their hat up, and wring it out.]
Why isn't it working?
no subject
[Yeah. That's what it said, she's got it pulled up right here.]
Look, I'm not some kind of magic engineer, but. What if, even if you leave it open, whatever dried up the river is just... drying up whatever comes through? You're just feeding a leak.
no subject
[They don't know.]
Ughhhhhh this is stupid. Persephone's doing all this work to keep the plants alive, I should be able to do something.
no subject
[What's a king to a god, what's a god to a nonbeliever, etc.]
Bigger than me, I guess. Sorry, kid.
no subject
[They shrug, plunking themselves down on a rock. Their clothes squelch.]
I guess I'll just... keep running jugs out here then.
Action
...So. What exactly are you attempting here?

Anyways - I asked her if she thought I was stupid, because of him yelling about it. And she’s like. Mega blunt. She uh.
She kiiiiinda got mad.
At him.
So she turned him into a mint plant for a while.
[Said like they’re just. Commenting on Persephone getting her hair dyed or something.]
no subject
He called you stupid?
[She isn't going to lie, Hermes isn't the brightest bulb in the box, but he isn't an idiot, he's just impulsive. And excitable. Actually, he probably has some kind of chemical imbalance, not that it's any of her business.]
...No, I'm gonna side with her on this one. Seems justified.
no subject
[They sort of wilt where they're sitting in the dirt.]
I... thought maybe I could open a Door to a normal river. Just until this gets fixed. I figured I'd try it with a little door, y'know?
[A gesture at the pet carrier.]
Vash said it was a good idea.
