Lost in Paradise

WHO: The Magnus Brothers + you
WHERE: Around Kaisou
WHEN: Early March
WHAT: The brothers get into shenanigans in kaisou while ignoring that the Libra app exists.
WARNINGS: Nothing for now, two scouse brothers being aliens in a new world.

➡ Life requires Capital / closed to Basilio and Fidelio

hold your horses now, we'll sleep until the sun goes down

[ they're not even being asked to hurt anyone. not directly, anyway, not yet--so it's a little easier than it normally is to take the work from the weird asshole who wants some other weird asshole looked over. Del's good at pretending that work's work, and however it shakes out is just how it goes, but it sticks a little deeper under Basilio's skin--like burrs from sleeping rough getting a chance to dig down and really make themselves known.

Del scoffs if he brings it up too much. most people'd think it's cruel, dismissing someone's concerns so out of pocket like that--but kindness is a luxury the Magnus Brothers can't afford and nobody's really out here offering credit to sharp-eyed orphans with chips on their shoulders, now are they? can't take a house loan out on being a good fella; can't get anything just for being 'kind'.

you have to take what you want, or get taken when something wants you.

so Basilio schools his expression and puts on that hard-eyed, flinty look that he wears when he and Del are gone walking in places they might not really belong--because scowling sharply enough and moving like you own the place is enough for most people not to take another glance. they've got things to do, people to see, problems to cause, and nobody with sense is gonna cast about for a gamble at happenstance. folks in Undertown have better things to do than play neighborhood watch. it's kind of nice, even if it's got Basilio's hackles all the way up--Del's tail flicks at a slow, agitated back-and-forth and Bas figures that's where the nerves have gotten down to, especially as they round on Gak's supposed place of business. ]

So, I'm doing the talkin', right?

[ it's an old joke, mumbled before they find their way into the store, Basilio baring newfound fangs in a little grin as he tries to ease some of his brother's sharpness with a familiar bit of jest. play easy, play cool.

the Magnus brothers can do anything when they're together. Basilio adjusts the big wrapped 'instrument' slung across his back with a casual gesture, running his fingers along the axe's haft to reassure himself. ]

➡ Ownership is a New Concept / OTA

one. good will that's too good to be true.

[ one way or another--fail or success in their job today--the magnus brothers got their hands on some money. it isn't much, but it's definitely enough to go looking for something to eat. They've easily learned that they can't fill their stomachs waiting for people to give them food for free--but they have come to recognise a few signs of where to shop and get the best bang for your buck.

Goodwills are their best friends. The clothing the cat-eared pair are wearing, for example, definitely look like they were grabbed out of a vintage section of some old goodwill store; what with Basilio's high-shouldered jacket and neck scarf, and Fidelio's houndstooth pattened two-piece - with - turtleneck combo.

They aren't prepared for a goodwill like this, however, as the items inside are all... questionable at best, and too good to be true for cheap--or even FREE.
While Fidelio won't raise his head to address anyone else in the shop, his wide-eyed and friendlier brother certainly might raise his voice over a particularly interesting find--Fidelio snapping back that there's no way they'll give you a legit pot of bloody gold for free, ya muppet, while Basilio argues that No, for real, Del, it says try yer luck for--look at how cheap this is!

...They really need some help here. ]

two. they don't use pounds in america.

[ no small amount of confusion clouds the pair's face as they stare up at the sign outside this particular shop. It's one they... recognise, hilariously enough. they'd spent a few weeks in England before making their delicate way into america, and they've definitely seen this sign before. they probably even have a few handfuls of the coins that this establish USUALLY take, to boot--but why was it in America?

Much less sat right next to what looked like the fanciest fucking antique's shop in the city? it was like a liminal space that didn't look real. ]

Y'think they realise they're in the wrong country. [ fidelio asks the taller cat-boy at his side, a flick of his long tail behind him as he tries to decide what to do here. ] Y'think they'll take the old money we pinched from that bloke back in London.

[ because no other shop in america would take the pound notes from them, and it was irritating. ]

Dunno, Del. Maybe we ought to peek inside--or, hey, there comes someone there. [ ...Basilio and his willingness to ask strangers for help. Del looks irritated. but one way or another, whoever might be approaching the Pound shop is now going to get piled on with questions from a pair of catboys who talk like they've never seen the inside of a shop before. Sorry. Or maybe you're welcome. ]

➡ There's only Three Guys here / OTA

one. oh you're 23 years old now, stick with what you know

Woulja look at that, Del! Think somethin' happened to the other pair of Guys?

[ it's probably a joke that the people working the front counter of the Five Guys have heard a dozen, dozen times, but Basilio's at least got the decency to say it in an aside to his brother from as far away as humanly possible from the front counter while still physically remaining in the Five Guys lobby. Bas has an unnaturally red plastic card clenched in his hand like it'll fritter away into the aether if he lets up on it for too long, shaggy brown ears atop his head twitching this way and that at the sounds of the fast food joint around him and his diminutive sibling. his tail flicks with an excited sort of agitation.

it's probably comical the way he crouches to converse and keep council with the shorter man next to him--but hey, at least they're studying the menu from afar instead of standing at the counter, slack-jawed and unaware of the kinds of things that happen at a burger joint. ]

two. i want the bacon cheeseburger with the damn good fries

[ but the Magnus' eventually make up their minds one way or another--so a little while after the quiet convening and practicing of what's next on the agenda; Bas and Del will join the line to receive the sacred greeting ('welcome to Five Guys, home of burger and fries, what can I get you?'), there'll be a moment of confusion on Basilio's face as brow furrows as if he's been asked to solve a puzzlemaster's grand riddle. ]

I mean, if y've got burgers and fries I'd expect it should be obvious, yeah?

[ and then the little one will do the talking as Basilio presents the gift card, keeper of their meat-based hopes and dreams, their aspirations of milkshake greatness... whatever the hell a milkshake is... thought it might. take them a minute. to navigate the delicate process of ordering food. they're feral. all apologies. ]

➡ Is that how people get pets? / OTA

[ getting backpack from the goodwill that can carry basically everything they own on their backs is a great thing--especially given that currently, the Magnus brothers are essentially homeless--but there is going to be stress that arises when a shooting star lands near them, leaving behind a small crate instead of a ... rock.

At first, the pair don't seem keen on approaching the little box, and start to make a somewhat wide berth around it--but when there's the sound of... whining from inside it, Fidelio's quick to run up to it to release the creature that's trapped inside.

out comes a small dog with huge ears. It makes Del stare for a long moment as the realization hits both brothers at once: and only one of them voices it. ]

...Tha' dog came outta' the sky. Means he don't got a home, just like us.

[ Fidelio was thinking it. But Basilio just had to say it out loud. ]

Then we find a place to home the dog and go on our way. We can't keep an animal when we don't have a place to keep it. ...Belt up, don't give me them big ol' eyes, we can't KEEP it.

[ they're not exactly being quiet about their problem, and a dog did just drop out of the sky. Maybe they could use some help finding out where to put the dog--or a place they can stay that isn't the awning of a building at night. ]

➡ Anything goes / OTA

[ if you want to meet the brothers a different way, or have a different prompt, post it here, we're down for whatever. ]

While Ritsuka didn't miss those warnings, well, she wasn't the type to be offended. Or even really take note, beyond putting some thought into being extra clear. She didn't want them to be turned off to a good option just because they didn't trust her or something.

"Well, depending on what you're looking for, there's a number of places in the city. I think there's also campgrounds out in the park but lately places like that haven't really been a good idea to be around."

Something something spirit vein, monsters, barrier...

"But, uh. So this is a really weird question, but I need to ask... Did you guys happen to find a suspicious app show up on your phones after you got here?"

Camping hasn't lost its charm yet, so Bas looks just as thoughtful when his brother cranes around to give him a good look--the unspoken promise to follow up on that particular train of thought and check out the possibility passed from one brother to the other without a word.

It doesn't stop one of Bas' ears from cocking towards the little fox girl as she mentions the application that's been taking up space on their phones--another met glance, and then there's a more purposeful turn of his gaze onto Ritsuka. His brother leads, he follows.

"Figured it was some weird thing that cropped up on cheapie burner phones. We were gonna chuck 'em eventually anyhow. I don't even know the number on mine, let alone how some program got itself on the thing."

"Well... The bad news is, nobody's found a way to get rid of that app on purpose, so you're basically stuck with it It can be pretty annoying."

Like those obnoxious official Zodiac posts.

"But the good news is, since you have that, there's a couple other places you can go. It means you can get into the crystal tower, for one, and also the fortress in the bay. There's actually a bunch of people staying at the fortress now."
basilmiao: (AND WE'RE CHOOSERS)

"First the tails and the ears, now the phones... anythin' else gonna just pop up and give a fella a conniption?"

As could be clearly seen, Fidelio was one good fit away from having his tiny head pop off, leaving nothing but his ire and his sheer determination to keep him walking around.

There's a glint of recognition in Basilio as the fortress is mentioned, again. "Is that the fortress that's s'posed to be all werewolves?"

He's not sure he believes in the werewolves--but he's also not sure he can afford to ignore the possibility of werewolves. It's enough to make his head swim.

"Who'd want to live in a bloody tower...?"

"Pretty sure if you get a new phone, it'll just somehow have the app on it too... It's like magic, or a curse."

Ritsuka hadn't tried it herself, but she paid attention to the network and the things people complained about on it.

"Right. It's called Meropide. But any werewolves would be other people from the app. Just, you know, they got cursed to turn into werewolves sometimes."

Much like how she was occasionally a fox. Well, not that these two would know that, but still.

"Oh the tower's pretty big, so there's lots of room! And it'd be free, too, so."
