[ Nightfall comes and evening hours rapidly tally up. Miyako Inoue has always been best known for panicking and worrying. Sleep doesn't come easily when your brain doesn't know how to shut itself up — and she's tried, trust her — so instead she's spent the better part of the night tinkering. Having given up somewhere around one in the morning that it was just one of those nights, the young woman tries to funnel herself into what she does best.

There's only one problem with that: The people she knows within Kaisou are few. Most days she ignores it, smiles and moves on. But several weeks into her stay and she's missing not only her partner Digimon — someone she's spent essentially every waking hour with for eight years — but her family and friends, too. At least if they were around she could focus her mind on doing something proactive. Helping them.

All it ends in right now is a lack-of-sleep addled brain and a young woman getting frustrated at a program she's trying to write not coming out the way she wants (She's not even sure what she was trying to make anymore). When the hours have slipped into wee morning and the sun threatens to come up over the horizon she takes to the network.

Despite all things, she's made certain the room she shows isn't a complete mess. And despite how her eyes look tired she gives a bright, energetic salute: ]

'Ello! Inoue Miyako here! I'm a university student majoring in computer programming! But I've been taking a part computers and other kinds of tech stuff since I was a kid! Bet you didn't think that included things like sound mixing, huh? If you ever need help fixing something, look me up! For a small price of a delicious meal, I'll help anyone!

[ She'll help people she considers friends regardless, but that's a different story. Her smile's sheepish as she continues to rattle on: ] I realized I'd been here a couple weeks now and forgot to introduce myself. I hope you can forgive me on forgetting such an important greeting! I hope we can get along.

[ It's somehow said as someone who thinks saying as much is just a formality. Even so, she gives a slight bow before straightening up. The bright smile even brighter as she leans forward: ]

Oh, that reminds me! I did have a question for all of you. Two questions, actually!

[ Okay, so what are they? ]

First, if there's one place in the entire universe you could be right now, where would it be? For me... Mm! I think visiting Taiwan with my friends still sounds like a lot of fun — [ And her smile finally twitches, as if she's reminded of why she stayed up all night and what the real question is. For the first time the entire video call and perhaps for even the few people who knows her she hesitates: ]

I guess the second one is pretty silly of me. I'm an adult now after all, I should be able to handle this more maturely! [ A laugh that's more self-deprecating than joyous: ] But I guess... Is there any places you guys go when you miss someone? This is the first time that I've ever been this far apart that I...

[ She feels lonely? Lost? Given her whole fake dreamworld didn't work on her because she never wanted to be alone it's hard to cope with. She smiles brightly again: ] Ah, well! Forget about it! We've all got to deal with things sometime, right?

Maybe if I could buy some wine here, haa — Thanks for listening! Let's talk sometime soon, okay?

And really, no matter how things have been going for Lup since she stumbled out of that incomprehensible maze that was The Starblaster and into this even stranger city, there's just something undeniably familiar about the younger woman's pep and excitement. It leaves the elf's mouth curving into a sharp, too-amused grin, her whole expression brightening more and more the longer Miyako keeps on rambling on.

Oh. She's cute, isn't she.]

What the hay, may as well play a lil' Twenty Questions and get to know each other for real. Sounds like we're gonna be stuck here together for long enough. Hm...

[Okay so, it's kind of a hard question, isn't it? Even if her home world hadn't been gobbled up by a vore planet, Lup still wouldn't dream of returning there. And the place she left was hardly better with the exception of her family being stranded there. The elven woman on screen taps her pointed chin with a finger, giving an exaggerated tilt of her head back and forth while she deliberates.]

Oh! [Lup's ears perk up at the same time she holds up a finger.] How about -- So like, eighty years ago, my fam and I dropped down into this beach world. When I say beach world, I mean beeeeaach wooorrrld. The whole place was like, one giant ocean with a single island plopped right into the middle of it. It was kinda perfect. Great weather, amazing waves, the best seafood I've ever had. Gotta be the beach world, natch.

[The girl seems a little lost in her thoughts, young and lonely maybe? Lup can't quite be too sure, but she can absolutely relate to being far away from your people for the first time.]

I'm Lup, bee-tee-dubs. You said you wanted to visit some place with your friends, yeah? What kinda shit can you see them enjoying there? Tell me about 'em, sis.

[ Luisa hasn't entirely been in the best of moods since...certain recent events. But she recognizes Miyako from the party their family had thrown at Casita a couple weeks ago (gosh, has it only been a few weeks? It feels so much longer). And while she takes note of her offer about fixing computers and tech, it's the questions that really catch her attention. ]

Uh, hi. It's...been a while, huh? How have you been?

For your first question, if I could be anywhere in the universe right now, it'd be back home in Colombia. That's where my family originally came from before we ended up here.

[ The second question has her thinking a moment, because that was a bit more difficult to answer. ]

So, um...I don't know how much you remember of Casita from the party we had before, but in the sala there's a piano. And when I'm missing my papí, sometimes I'll just go in there and play a little.

Any place I could go right now? Maybe an amusement park because it is a lot of fun! I wouldn't mind riding all the roller coasters I want!

And I'm not sure if there's any place I would go if I miss someone. Maybe the park because I usually see a lot of people there. So many I can see the person I miss there!

It's a pretty reasonable price, right? And I get to try new food!

Italy, huh? I can't say I've been there before!
But I've heard good things ; There's a lot of really cool architecture and some of the wines are to die for.
Visiting a place like that would be a lot more fun with people you're connected to, mm!

Oh! So we've been here about the same time. Are you doing all right so far?

[ When the video shows the other for a moment Miyako blinks — She's used to Digimon not people who mostly look human. The other's appearance is far from the strangest thing in the world, bouncing ears and all, so her smile remains in tact and surprise falls away as quickly as it comes. It helps the woman on the other side of the screen is very, very pretty. ]

Ooh, twenty questions sounds! I've played it a couple of times before. Do we want some ground rules?

[ She listens intently — Can't help squinting at the other when she speaks. The other worlds and beach worlds being a thing doesn't phase her, but then why should they? In fact when she gets a second to speak she pipes up immediately: ] There's no way you're over eighty! You're just so pretty and cool looking for that!

Mmm, some seafood sounds really good about now, too...

[ She continued to that point without missing a beat, but gives somewhat of a sheepish laugh as she continued on: ]

Well, yeah! We were planning on visiting a lot of places just before I arrived here. It got derailed before we even left New York for other reasons... Ah, but we were going to visit Atami for the hot springs and beach! Australia to go snowboarding. Taiwan for the pork and night markets. [ Can you tell which one she wanted to go to? ] Someone mentioned Tahiti and visiting Nagoya... Hikari-san wanted it so I gave us all a tour of spain too.

[ Quiet laughter: ] There's a lot of places we wanted to go and see, but I'd be happy going anywhere with them.

Oh, it's you again! [ Her smile remained cheerful as she leaned back in her seat, taking the phone with her. In the slight spin of her chair it shows the desk with her laptop open and the desk... It's a mess, but she's not going to say anything if Luisa won't:]

Well ~✧ When I start my morning the sun's been shining! So I can go about my day with lots of energy and tackle my classwork. [ Which doesn't quite answer the question, but it's honest all the same — She's doing her best to focus on what she can control, not what she can't. ] What about you? No one left too huge a mess to clean up, did they?

Columbia...? That's South America, right? Well, I can't disagree with going home! But was there any other places you'd like to visit?

[ She tilts her head, thinking: ] I'm happy you have something like that. It's a little more difficult not really having anything, but ah-- I could take some pictures I have and put it one of those digital picture frames!

An amusement park would be fun right about now! They're great because they have lots of junk food and it's an amusement park so no one will judge you for it.

[ Miyako, no. ]

It's true you'd see a lot of different people in a park, but how would you see the person you're misisng?

Why would anyone judge you? It's not good food to eat but why would anyone make mean comments about it?

[Said the five year old]

I'm not sure but I'm hoping you can! I would show up at some point because the park is really nice and lots of people go there.

[It's the insomniac girl again. She thinks about both questions a bit...]

Oh well, I guess I'd rather just be home. As long as the rest of my family is there, of course. It'd be weird to go back and my family and Casita aren't there.

[As for the second question...]

My papí isn't here, and I miss him a lot. Sometimes I'll go to places I'd know he'd like... like he's going to show up there at any moment. What about you?

Well, yeah! You're right! But making sure to eat health is just as important as eating delicious food. That doesn't make it less delicious.

Hmm! I can't argue with that logic. I like to visit parks on sunny days. But I'm not from here, you know? Most people can't just jump into a gate and go wherever they want at any time!

[ And usually she's not one of those people. She can go wherever she wants anytime she wants usually. But this is different, afterall. ]

[ For her part, Miyako nods. Home is the general sentiment of most people here, after all. She didn't think she was alone in that — Though maybe she's more used to not being home than some others. It's a complicated feeling. ]

What kind of places are those? Want to tell me about them?

[ A beat to the follow up question and she waves her hand, smile softening as she glances to the side as if she's looking for something — someone. He's not there: ]

Ah, well! I've been to so many different places... I'd be happy being anywhere as long as it was with the people I loved. I mean, it's just nice being able to do things they like to do together. I can't imagine doing some of the stuff on my own.

[ It's only half fun trying new food all by herself, afterall. ]

[ Luisa doesn't really mind. She can't say much about messy rooms, really. ]

That's good. [ She can also appreciate looking on the bright side. ] I've been getting by. [ She's certainly been better, but that's not really something she's willing to talk about on the network right now. ] Actually, compared to most parties we've thrown in Casita, that one was pretty easy with the clean up afterwards.

Yeah, it's in South America. [ She hesitates for a moment. She'd talked about traveling with her cousin once before, but... ] To be honest, I'm not really sure. Being here has already been more than I thought I'd ever experience. I haven't really thought about visiting anywhere specific.

[ Mostly because she never thought she'd get the chance. ]

A...what?

Exactly! And I don't think there's anything wrong with eating as much hotdogs as you can! As long as you eat some healthy stuff with it too!

You're not from here? Are you one of those people that came from another world? Or at least, that's what people have been saying.

[Lup's an open book. Sorta. Maybe. We'll see.]

Can't argue with the facts, but it's true. I am pretty hot. [She reaches up to give her own pointed ear a little flick, sending the numerous earrings there dancing in response.] Elves don't age in human time, so 200-some years old to the elves back home is nothing, but to humany-types is usually a real shock.

[Honestly, Lup doesn't mind how quickly the other woman jumps to the next subject, it's endearing and kinda more her pace. Why talk in depth about one thing when you can learn about everything all at once?!]

Mmm, been to a lot of places, but never heard of any of those. Sounds pretty sweet though - hot springs, beaches, snowboarding, night markets - [And there's just no hiding the way that the elven woman's smile sharpens ever so slightly, unable to hide the excitement in her eyes.] - and the food. Always the real highlight of any trip, am I right? Do you like to cook? My bro and I spent the last century or so perfecting our palates. We're basically the masters of the kitchen.

Ah, well that's good! It'd be pretty awful if someone took all the food and then didn't even bother to help out. Those kind of people are the worst.

[ She nods, more to herself than anything. Maybe it's a cultural thing, too, she thinks minutely on but doesn't linger. She uses her foot to push the chair back and forth absently as she thinks: ]

You should definitely try if you ever get the chance. There's so many beautiful places to see and people to meet in the world. If we ever get home I'll have to add Columbia and South America to the places to visit with my friends. [ She does not take for granted at all the fact she essentially created instant teleportation to other countries, dubiously illegal though it may be: ] What's your favorite food from home?

[ Caught up as she is, she almost forgets the confusion and waves a hand: ] Oh! It's just a picture frame, but instead of just one picture you can have it so it has a collection of your photos and changes to a different one every few minutes.

Life's too short to not try every food you can afterall~!

I guess? I'm from Earth, but this isn't my Earth? It's pretty weird! I've been to different worlds before, but I didn't think it'd be like alternate Earth or something...

Maybe. I'd have to think about it. [ Travel was a bit more difficult where she's from, given...technology, but it's probably better not to get into that right now. ] Do you travel a lot? Are there places that you really like or would recommend to see?

There were actually some at the party, if you got to try some of them, like the buñuelos, and the empanadas and arepas. Buñuelos are fried sweet dough, usually dusted with powdered sugar. Empanadas are filled pastries, usually with some kind of meat, or cheese. Arepas are toasted breads that you can cut in half and put things in. I also really like ajiaco, which is a hot soup with chicken and potatoes, but you can mix in a few different things in it too.

Oh wow, really? That sounds really cool. Though...I guess you would have to have the pictures first in order to use it.

What do you mean?

Does this mean you're an alien? That you've been to various other worlds because I would like to hear more!

But he speaks with an air of expertise beyond his years, volume and cadence equal parts nonchalant and dynamic. ]

Uhhh, first of all, you know even grandmas miss people, right...? What's age got to do with anything? S'not silly.

[ You can practically hear him rolling his eyes... But he continues on easily, though it's a little strange he's talking about missing someone as if it's... an actionable, actual activity. But that's how he interpreted her question, and lends an insight to how freely this kid must spend his time. Unintentionally a bit bittersweet, but there's not a hint of it in how casually he delivers his words. ]

Anyway, second of all, to answer your actual question: if you wanna go miss someone somewhere, find a place that makes you think of that person and smile, even if it makes you sad. My best friend and I used to look at the sky together at night — so now whenever I miss him, I go look at all the little lights in the sky at night by myself, cuz I know he's probably looking at them in Genova, too, y'know? Sooo, eheh— then it's like we're almost together, kinda.

[ There's a pause, a crumpling that sounds like a piece of paper being balled up, but then he tags on what sounds clearly like a hasty second thought before he ends the recording. ]

Oh— and to answer your other question, if I could go anywhere in the whole universe right now? Hah, yeah, I'd go see my friend in Genova! [ He doesn't say "duh" outright, buuut... he pretty much does. Obvious answer. Without a doubt. ]
