....Yeah--something like that. That's just the problem, and why I'm a little worried I might be overstepping here, but...

[Sighing, Waver made a wordlessly frustrated sound.]

It's a long and complex story. The summary is that Fionn was betrothed to this princess, GrĂ¡inne. However, the night the Fianna celebrated their engagement, she caught sight of Diarmuid--more specifically, the mark on his face. It's a powerful curse, compelling any woman who sees it to fall in love with him. So, like anyone definitely thinking rationally and not cursed whatsoever, GrĂ¡inne laid a curse of her own essentially blackmailing him with all manner of ruin unless he ran away with her.

Fionn, unlike the rest of the Fianna, did not care for this situation and chased them across the country and back again. After a whole mess of things, the rat bastard ostensibly forgave Diarmuid and let everything settle.

[The vitriol in Waver's voice probably suggested what came next.]

...Eventually, Fionn and Diarmuid went out hunting--Diarmuid, who had been prophesized to be killed by a boar, was mortally wounded. And though Fionn had powerful healing ability, he just...stalled until it was too late.
