To make them stop, I'd challenge them to duels where I'd beat them soundly without killing them. But beating them hard enough that the next time they saw me, they'd just run away.

Sometimes a reputation and confidence is all you need to protect yourself--or those who are weaker than you. Without the need to have to show your strength a second time. That's pretty cool of you.
