"And you should have seen how the humans panicked when they saw you two go down and didn't come up again! Which was a bit entertaining, but you really don't want to cause that kind of trouble now, do you?"

"But that's what we're telling you! We don't want to cause trouble, it was the gooses! Why aren't they in trouble?"

Paddy's friend narrows his eyes.

"They're birds. There is a certain level of behavior we expect from children that we don't expect from birds."

This is so unfair, but Luca figures that even if they're still angry, they do seem to be buying this narrative, so it's best to keep going with it.

"I'm really sorry. How would you have wanted us to do things?"

Paddy's friend glances at Paddy. Apparently it's easier to be judgmental if you don't have to come up with an actual solution.
